Stencil Printmaking Without a Screen: A Workshop with Deborah Schindler

March 16, 2022 Weekly until March 23, 2022 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Washington Printmakers Gallery (1641 Wisconsin Ave NW)

If you are looking for an easy and exciting way to create lively and colorful prints using simple materials, this course is for you. The process requires limited space, little previous art training and virtually no clean-up time. Using clear plastic sheets for stencils, we will cut out shapes with a razor blade cutter. We will use a 3-hole punch and registration pins to ensure our stencil and paper align correctly and then apply primary-colored highlighter markers. The ink will appear on the printing paper beneath the stencil in the shapes you cut away. Each time we apply a different color, we turn the stencil 90 degrees so the shapes overlap in different places, creating patterns of primary (red, yellow and blue) and secondary (purple, orange and green) colored shapes.

The cost of the class is $150 (supplies included) and is limited to 4 students. NOTE: The instructor will demonstrate safety measures for cutting with sharp blades. However, prior experience using a razor blade cutter is recommended.
