Monoprint Magic – Intro to Gel Plate Printing with Jennifer Singh

In this hands-on course, you’ll dive into the colorful and creative world of gel plate printing. Using charcoal, acrylic paints, stencils, and special layering techniques, you’ll learn to create beautiful one of a kind monoprints. We’ll explore ghost printing, layering, and even incorporate a Japanese tissue paper collage technique. By the end, you’ll have a series of prints and the skills to continue your gel plate journey on your own.

Course Outline:

Session 1: Introduction and Basics • Overview of materials and tools • Getting to know the gel plate and acrylic paints • Basic print pulling techniques and first monoprints • Introduction to using masks and stencils for simple designs

Session 2: Layering and Ghost Prints • Techniques for layering multiple colors and patterns • How to create and use ghost prints for subtle effects • Experimenting with charcoal and markers to add depth

Session 3: Incorporating Collage and Japanese Techniques • Introduction to chigiri-e: using torn Japanese paper in collage • Combining collage elements with gel prints • Adhering tissue paper and layering it into your compositions

Session 4: Finishing Techniques and Creative Exploration • Embellishments • Refining your prints
