The Capital Fringe Festival kicks off this weekend, giving stage time to performers who create something a little out of the norm. News4’s Tommy McFly has a preview.

Capital Fringe performances by more than 250 artists will run for two weekends out of spaces in the Georgetown Park mall that were once home to retailers like DSW and Forever 21, and capacity at each venue is limited to 51 seats.

The Capital Fringe Festival runs July 14-17 and 21-24; performances take place at pop-up stages in Georgetown.

It will all be held inside Georgetown Park, the mixed-use shopping mall on M Street.

For the first time, the annual theater event highlighting local, new, and “fringe” playwrights will be held at Georgetown Park, located at 3222 M St. NW.

Get a preview of the Capital Fringe Festival at the Sandlot Georgetown beer garden with “rapid-fire teasers” of a majority of Fringe shows. If one of the snippets catches your eye, tickets to the full version of every production are $15.

Rather than being spread around the city, the shows are all clustered around Georgetown, mostly in former retail spaces.

From August 2 until September 6, watch a free film with a view of the Potomac River at Georgetown Waterfront Park. Movies will have closed captioning. Upcoming films: The Goonies and Encanto.
