HOLIDAYS IN GEORGETOWN
It's the happ--happiest season of all! Welcome to Georgetown during the holidays.
Our 2017 holiday calendar is brimming with cheer, and we hope you'll visit DC's oldest neighborhood during a truly magical time. From classic white lights along the rooftops and wreaths adorning every lightpole, to the only outdoor light-art exhibition in the region, holidays in Georgetown are the perfect blend of traditional and one-of-a-kind.
12/8 - 12/31: HOLIDAY WINDOW COMPETITION
Support our small businesses by checking out our 6th annual Holiday Window Competition. This year, 22 businesses are competing. Voting will take place on Facebook, with a winner crowned on January 1. Visit our Holiday Window Competition page for the list of participating businesses and vote now!
12/8 - 1/7: GEORGETOWN GLOW
The popular holiday celebration returns for its fourth edition, featuring outdoor public light-art installations lit nightly from 5 pm - 10 pm that invite visitors to re-imagine the season of light. The works will be located throughout the Georgetown commercial district as the contemporary light art is juxtaposed against the backdrop of Georgetown’s historic environs. The signature winter event is the only light-art exhibition of its kind in the region. For a list of installations and their locations, visit our Georgetown GLOW page for more details and RSVP through our Facebook event.
12/14: GEORGETOWN GLOW SILENT DISCO
Imagine a silent dance floor full of people jumping up and down to the beat of their own…headset. As part of Georgetown GLOW 2017, Silent Dance Society is hosting a Silent Disco at Washington Harbour (3000 K St, in front of Bangkok Joe's) from 6 pm - 9 pm near the GLOW installation Horizontal Interference. Dance your heart out among a crowd of glowing headsets, as one of three different genres of music pumps through each one of them. As you switch between the channels, your headset will light up with a designated color for each DJ so you can easily tell what each attendee is listening to. Free and open to all ages! RSVP through our Facebook event.
12/14: GLOW ALL NIGHT
As part of Georgetown GLOW, join the Georgetown BID for a special night of shopping and dining. More than 50 of Georgetown’s national retailers and small businesses alike will be open late, offering in-store promotions, pop-up events, collection launches, give-aways and more. As you stroll throughout Georgetown, don’t miss our indie holiday carolers spreading the cheer. Visit our GLOW All Night page for more, and RSVP through our Facebook event.
ALL WINTER: ICE SKATING
The Washington Harbour Ice Rink at 3050 K St NW is D.C.’s largest outdoor ice skating venue—and a must-do if you want to fully experience the holiday season in Georgetown. Skate alongside the Potomac River and enjoy a hot beverage from one of the rink-side restaurants. Visit their website for daily operating hours, themed skating events and information on private lessons.
12/16: BOOK HILL WINTER WONDERLAND
The holiday cheer continues with a winter wonderland in the charming Book Hill section of Georgetown. Bring the kids to the TD Bank lot (1611 Wisconsin Ave) and enjoy festive music, food and drinks—including hot chocolate, cookies and mocktails—plus kids’ activities, a Letters to Santa station, ugly sweater competition, and photos with Santa (beginning at noon). 12/31: NEW YEAR'S EVE
2017 may be ending, but Georgetown GLOW will still be shining for another week. If you haven't had a chance to check out the public light-art exhibition, ring in the new year brighter than ever. Afterward, our businesses are rolling out the red carpet all night long -- from a Midnight in Paris party at Malmaison, to a RiverBash at Tony & Joe's and a Noon Years Eve kids celebration at Tudor Place. Check out our Events & Promotions page for the full list of New Year's Eve events.
