Topography + Construction Exhibition at Jewelers’Werk Galerie

June 22, 2020 Daily until September 1, 2020 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Jewelers’Werk Galerie (3319 Cady’s Alley NW)

Jewelers’Werk Galerie presents an exhibition of new work by German artist jeweler Iris Bodemer from June 22nd – September 1st.

Topography + Construction includes pieces from the two series titled as such, including brooches and neckpieces, some with detachable constructed chains. Bodemer utilizes thermoplastics and metal in these works, which flow naturally from her previous pieces. These new works have an appealing awkwardness, a “body language” that is a defining element in the artist’s jewelry and part of what makes these pieces compelling, original and strong. “Iris Bodemer’s visual vocabulary is like no one else’s, which, for me, makes her jewelry hard to categorize and hard to forget,” notes Director Ellen Reiben.

Iris Bodemer studied at the College for Design, Jewelry and Utensils and the College of Design in Pforzheim, Germany, and completed her graduate studies at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. She has won prestigious international awards and exhibited her work in shows worldwide. Bodemer’s pieces are represented in the permanent collections of such significant museums as The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New
York, The China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Bodemer has her studio in Pforzheim and teaches at her alma mater.

The show will be on display during the gallery’s regular business hours, Monday – Saturday, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.
