Linocut, Drypoint, and Monoprint with David Brosch

Over eight weeks, students are introduced to key printmaking techniques including monoprinting, drypoint, and linocuts.

Weeks 1-3 — Introduction to printmaking and an explanation of several of the print media will be learning including monoprinting, drypoint, and linocuts.
Weeks 4-5 — Using a monoprint plate I will explain how to apply inks in various additive or subtractive methods. Show how plates can be used for collage.
Weeks 6+7 — Using one or both of their monoprint plates, scribe images into the plates and even before the students are finished, ink and print some of the plates to demonstrate the effects of line depth, crosshatching, and how the quantity/quality of lines can affect an artwork.
Week 8 — Print the various completed blocks and plates and practice inking and wiping and even registration.
