I Am Woman at Washington Printmakers Gallery

June 5, 2021 Weekly until June 27, 2021 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Washington Printmakers Gallery (1641 Wisconsin Ave NW)

Artist Linda Behar is speaking at the Washington Printmakers Gallery on Saturday, June 5th, from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm to open her show, I AM WOMAN. Behar will discuss her life, her career as an artist, and will demonstrate the process of woodblock printing using laser cutting plates. Behar deployed this technique to create the colorful and striking images that will be on display at the Washington Printmakers Gallery for the month of June. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Linda Behar is interested in the female form, specifically how it is manifested in different media and how it highlights the dissonance between “the expectations of society and an individual’s sense of self.” Body language, for Behar, is a visual form of communication that helps the viewer understand human behavior. The artwork for this exhibit is a poetical representation of the woman’s body. As Behar notes, her goal is “embracing the freedom to be herself”.

The gallery is open on Saturdays from 11 to 5 and on Sundays from 12 to 4
