Employees in the Georgetown BID commercial district who have lost their jobs as a result of the coronavirus crisis, and need money to pay for rent, food, medical bills, or other emergency costs because they have few other options, were able to apply for up to $500 in financial assistance from the Georgetown Business Improvement District’s Employee Emergency Relief Grant program.
The Georgetown BID is in the process of awarding $150,000 total to hundreds of initial applicants. Hundreds more have applied and are still in need – and that’s where you come in!
Donate to This Fund
We’ve partnered with Halcyon, a nonprofit based in Georgetown, to launch a donation campaign to further fund this grant. To learn more and donate, visit georgetowndc.com/employee-relief-grant/donate. Donations will be made tax-deductible through Halcyon’s 501(c)(3) status, and 100% of funds will be distributed to those in need. Let’s serve those who have served us so well, until we can welcome them back to Georgetown.
The employee must meet the following three criteria. While we hope to award grants to as many eligible employees as possible, a grant is not guaranteed.
have been employed on March 1, 2020, at a BID member business;
attest to their need for emergency or necessary expense help; and
not be receiving other assistance that meets their needs (priority will be given to those without other sources of support)
How to Apply
Due to an overwhelming response, applications closed at 9 pm on Thursday, April 16. There may be a second window for applications if we are able to raise additional funds. Please also note that applying before this deadline does not guarantee you will receive money. We hope to help as many eligible people as possible. Priority will be given to those without other sources of financial support.
Las solicitudes para el Programa de ayuda para empleados se cerraron el 16 de abril.
One-time grants will be made for up to $500 per individual. Grants will be disbursed on a rolling basis until the $150,000 fund is depleted. A second round of applicants may be considered if the Georgetown BID receives additional fund support.
The BID will verify applications with employers. We recommend you let your employer know that you’ve applied, to help provide advance notice that the BID will be contacting them and will need their quick response.
Applications take approximately 3-5 business days to process before a check is mailed. Applicants can expect to receive a check within 7-8 days of completing their application, provided their employer can quickly verify their application.
