African-American Communities of Georgetown Walking Tour

Uncover the rich history of Georgetown’s African-American communities. Begin your tour in Herring Hill and learn about the eighteenth-century community of enslaved and freed African-Americans who lived in the neighborhood. Continue exploring Georgetown and see the churches and schools established by African-American Georgetowners during the nineteenth century.
 
Dumbarton House walking tours are led by Dwane Starlin, a professional, licensed tour guide and member of the Guild of Professional Guides of Washington, D.C. Dwane has lived in the DC area for over 30 years. He is an actor-performer who specializes in historical characterizations and is an ambassador for the Georgetown BID.
