The Georgetown BID recently launched a new logo and branding for Georgetown, as well as the BID and its program areas, taking inspiration from the neighborhood's recognizable architectural history with 'A Story in Every Brick.'

This month marks the Georgetown BID's 20th anniversary. As Georgetown has changed over the two decades our organization has managed it, we wanted to ensure the visual identity reflected its evolution as an energetic, surprising, authentic, multifaceted and approachable destination. We realized it was time for a refresh.

Last Fall, we hired DC-based Friendly Design Co., who began by conducting interviews to gather a diverse range of perceptions and views on Georgetown. We also created a committee of BID merchants and Board members who offered their guidance and unique perspective throughout the process.

But before we explain where we landed, it's important to remember where we came from. Check out the evolution of our three previous logos.

Our new logo features an anchor star, a distinct architectural element that represents Georgetown’s history, beauty, and longstanding status as a destination in DC.

The logo’s rectangular shape evokes the shape of bricks, street signs, and historical markers—suggesting a sense of place and time unique to Georgetown. The recurring rectangles throughout the brand are a series of bricks and individual experiential icons, which is a nod to the aesthetics of Georgetown as well as an illustration of the diversity of people, ideas, businesses and activities that create the foundation of Georgetown.

The new logo and its many brand iterations will be applied to every aspect of our programming throughout the commercial district—from our furnished public spaces in Georgetown's plazas, to our Clean Team uniforms, and events. Later this summer, we will also launch a redesigned website that reflects our branding evolution. Stay tuned for that unveiling!

But Georgetown is more than a brand; it's a feeling. We hope this refreshed look—plus our new brand video—capture that feeling you get when you're here. Food, shopping, community, culture, and history: This is Georgetown.
